Description:
This position is located in Shiprock, New Mexico. The purpose of this position is to serve as the Wellness Officer for Shiprock Service Unit with the goal of systematically enhancing the well-being of physicians and other staff. Additionally, this role serves as a technical expert in the field of Emergency Medicine, taking on the responsibility of diagnosing, caring for, and treating patients.

Additional Experience:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to implementing wellness programs for employees. Leadership experience in program development and implementation is highly recommended.
You must be willing to travel to and work in person at Shiprock, NM for this assignment.
SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR - Board Certification:
Applicants applying in a specialty must meet one of the following approved agency-wide selective factors:
- Board Certified in the Specialty
OR
- Active Registrant of the Board in the Specialty
Education:
This position has an education requirement. Applicants are strongly encouraged to submit copies of their transcripts or a list of courses with the respective details. Unofficial transcripts will be accepted in the application package. Official transcripts will be required from all selectees prior to receiving an official offer.
Only attendance and/or degrees from schools accredited by recognized accrediting institutions can be credited.
If foreign education is being used to meet qualification requirements, applicants must include a Certificate of Foreign Equivalency with their transcript for the education to be credited.
A degree from a foreign medical school must provide education and medical knowledge equivalent to accredited schools in the United States. Evidence of equivalency includes permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates, a fifth pathway certificate, or successful completion of the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination.
Additional Information:
Per IHS policy (SGM 21-04), IHS selectees to positions in Federally operated hospitals, health centers, and clinics must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 prior to entry on duty or have IHS approve a medical or religious exemption. If an exemption is approved, wearing a face mask and regular testing for COVID-19 will be required. Human Resources Specialist will provide the list of acceptable documents for vaccination proof and instructions on how to submit vaccination documentation or request an exemption if needed.
The Indian Health Service (IHS), National Health Service Corps (NHSC), and the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) offer student loan repayment programs for eligible health professionals. These programs are separate from the hiring process and are based on agency priorities and funding availability.
Federal employees earn annual leave based on their years of service in a federal position, with rates of 4, 6, or 8 hours per pay period. The IHS may also provide credits for previous non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service, which can impact the rate of annual leave accrual.

Description:
This position is located in Shiprock, New Mexico. Additionally, this role serves as a technical expert in the field of Emergency Medicine, taking on the responsibility of diagnosing, caring for, and treating patients.
Duties
- The main focus of this role is to foster a wellness culture that improves the overall health and well-being of the organization at the system-level. It involves addressing the unique needs of healthcare professionals by enhancing the efficiency of the practice environment, improving elements of organizational culture, and ensuring that physician well-being is taken into consideration in all key organizational decisions. This position will closely collaborate with executive leadership, including the CEO, chief nurse executive, clinical director, and department leaders. If applicable, the position will also work closely with a parallel nursing position.
- Providing strategic vision, planning, and guidance to the development, implementation, and evaluation of initiatives aimed at improving health and well-being outcomes among healthcare staff/employees.
- Regularly monitoring and reporting outcomes, including measures of engagement, professional fulfillment, health and well-being, and tracking how they change with the implementation of interventions.
- Coordinating the Wellness Council (in conjunction with a relevant parallel nursing position).
- Identifying work units that are struggling and providing them with support, recommendations, and strategies to improve.
- Communicating the vision, and why prioritizing the well-being of healthcare professionals is crucial for the success of the organization.
- Ensuring the availability of a range of resources that individual healthcare professionals can utilize to promote personal well-being.
- Establishing a system-wide safety net for healthcare professionals in distress.
- Providing training to work-unit leaders to effectively foster well-being in their departments.
- Assisting in promoting key qualities such as equity, participatory leadership, collegiality, mutual respect, and professionalism within the organization.
- Conducting regular assessments to identify opportunities for improvement and track progress towards goals.
- Collaborating with other departments to integrate wellness into all aspects of the company culture.
- Monitoring employee satisfaction with company wellness programs and making necessary adjustments.
- Serving as an expert in providing emergency medical services for all patients.
- Performing any other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Applicant may be subject to a probationary period.
- U.S. Citizenship is mandatory for this position.
- Designated position covered by Public Law 101-630, requiring contact or control over Indian children. The agency must ensure that individuals hired for these positions have not been found guilty of or pleaded nolo contendere or guilty to certain crimes.
- Confidential Financial Disclosure Form is required.
- Measles and Rubella immunization is mandatory for selectees born after 1957, and seasonal influenza immunization is required for all staff working in Indian Health Service health care facilities.
- The selected individual must obtain and maintain medical staff clinical privileges, including any licensure requirements. Failure to obtain or maintain privileges may result in adverse actions, including removal from Federal service.
- On-call hours or standby duty may be necessary.
- Successful completion of the E-Verify employment verification check is required.
- Background Investigation: If selected for this vacancy, a pre-employment fingerprint check and background investigation are mandatory.
BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):
- Degree: Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine or equivalent from a school in the United States or Canada. The degree must have been accredited by one of the recognized accrediting bodies at the time it was obtained.
