Emergency Medicine MD needed at a Freestanding facility near Leesburg, FL

Position specific questions

  • Duration of need? Until further notice. Anticipate 1-2 years
  • What s the schedule? On-site, call coverage, weekends, nights- Call/Rotation schedule? NO CALL


Candidate Parameters
  • Any specific fellowships/ certifications/ procedures/ competencies we are looking for? EM Board Eligible after successful completion of accredited Residency or FM/IM with 3 years of Experience (for FSEDs only)

Credentialing questions:
  • Will emergency privileges be an option? Yes


Hospital/unit questions

Number of beds? Ocala- 31, WM- 28
  • Census? Variable based on location and shift
  • How many patients are they rounding on per day? NA
  • How many daily admissions? NA
  • Trauma center? Types of cases? Acuity?
  • Ocala is a Level 2 (ACS Level 1) Trauma Center
  • What does the support staff look like? APP coverage based on location and shift
  • How will follow up cases be handled? (when applicable- inpatient or outpatient)


Credentialing questions
  • Will we do emergency privs or temps? Yes
  • Orientation done on first day of assignment or prior? Morning of 1 st Shadow shift


Specialty Specific Questions:

Emergency Medicine
  • What are the shift times?- Most 7a-7p and 7p-7a at all sites, There are two 8 hour shifts available per day.
  • Is call involved? No


What procedures are required?
  • Proficiency in all emergency care procedures is required (Central Access, Arterial Line, Lumbar Puncture, Intubation, Pacing, Orthopedic stabilization, etc.)
  • What does the support staff include? APP coverage depending on shift and time of day. EM residency program. APP training program as well.
  • What is the average patient census? Depends on location. Most FSEDs are 2 patients per hour. Main sites are more variable.
  • What are the most common cases the locum will see? FSEDs- Vertical 3 patients and Level 4/5 patients. Ocala/ WM- Mainly Vertical 3 patients (abdominal pain, chest pain, etc.). They are unlikely to work in the Main (high acuity) section of these facilities unless they specifically request.
  • How many EM physicians are typically on staff per shift? FSED 1, Ocala/WM 2
  • 1250 referral bonus received for any referral who works 30 days.
