Job Details

Emergency Medicine Specialists (EMS) is a democratic physician led group seeking a board certified emergency medicine physician for medical director for St. Elizabeth Hospital in Appleton, WI.  The position is for medical director at St. Elizabeth but the role also allows for shift coverage at the other hospitals EMS staffs in the region (Mercy and Calumet Medical Center).

  • Position reports to Chief Medical Officer of EMS

Leadership expectations

  • The Site Medical Director is the primary liaison between EMS leadership, the hospital, and the practicing providers. In collaboration with hospital administration and the ED nursing director, the medical director is responsible for the overall management and leadership of the department including clinical care, operational performance, staffing, compliance, patient satisfaction, and staff education.
  • Establish and maintain departmental policies and procedures and ensure compliance with hospital policies, medical staff bylaws, regulatory, accreditation and licensing requirements
  • Ensures compliance with EMS contractual commitments with Ascension hospital system
  • Provides input into department budgets, expenditures, equipment, planning and design
  • Directs investigation and resolution of patient complaints, incidents, and adverse events
  • Provide ongoing provider staff education and assistance and input regarding supervision and direction of non-physician hospital personnel
  • Participates in regular department meetings

Operations

  • Monitors and adjusts staffing levels of physicians and APCs with the EMS Staffing Committee
  • Monitors performance and oversee programs on key operational metrics
  • Provide medical supervision and monitor performance of EMS physicians and APCs
  • Participates approving new providers, ensure appropriate onboarding and orientation.
  • Participates in established system for peer review

Hospital Relationships

  • Meets with administration and other departments leads
  • Develops and maintains working partnership with ED Nursing leadership
  • Participates on the Campus Leadership and needed pertinent leadership opportunities
  • Ensures active participation by ED physicians on appropriate committees
