We are looking for board-certified (or board eligible) emergency physicians to staff our network of 4 ERs in the central Virginia region:
  • Lynchburg General Hospital(Lynchburg, VA)
    • 70K patient visits per year, 54 beds.
    • Southside Community Hospital (Farmville, VA)
    • Busy community hospital and level 2 trauma center that maintains high quality acute MI and stroke certification programs.
    • 110-120 hours of physician staffing daily. Always at least two physicians in the department.
    • 10-hour shifts that are scheduled in a waterfall fashion to match staffing to patient arrivals and limit sign-outs.We seepatients according to acuity for the first 8 hours of the shift and then cherry pick for the last two.
    • Approved for brand new 65 bed Emergency Department - currently in design phase.
    • First EmPath Unit on the east coast under construction and to be completed summer of 2023. This is a behavioral health care space that will be staffed and managed by the behavioral health service.
  • Southside Community Hospital (Farmville, VA)
    • 30K visits per year, 20 beds.
    • 40 hours of physician staffing daily, 20 hours of APP coverage.
    • ?10-hour shifts
  • Bedford Memorial Hospital (Bedford, VA)
    • 20K visits per year, 14 beds
    • 12-hour shifts
    • 24 hours of physician coverage, 20 hours of APP coverage.
  • Gretna Medical Center (Gretna, VA)
    • 25K visits per year, 10 beds.
    • Free-standing ED.
    • 24 hours of physician coverage, 20 hours of APP coverage.
    • 12-hour shifts


  • Physician Compensation & Benefits
    • Competitive, transparent compensation that represents a mix of hourly and productivity pay.
    • The average physician makesabout$235/hr, not including CME, loan repayment,orotherbonus pay.
    • The average full-time physician makes over $404,000/yr not counting CME, loan repayment and other bonus pay.
    • Differential pay for:
      • Night shift: $30/hr
      • Working as a nocturnist: $8.50/hr in addition to night shift differential. There are limited nocturnist slots available.
      • Working at multiple sites: up to $8.50/hr.
    • Up to120kin student loan repayment
    • Up to $20K in relocation and sign-on bonus.
    • Make up to$100extra per hour tovoluntarilycover critical scheduling shortagesorcallouts.
    • Up to$7,500CME allowance + 5 days for CME in addition to time off
    • Centra is anot-for-profit health system; many of our docs areparticipatingin the federal PSLF program.
