Physician - Emergency Department (Wheeling Hospital)

The West Virginia University Health System is West Virginia's largest health system and the state's largest employer. The System has undergone significant expansion in specialty and sub-specialty care in areas such as cancer, heart and vascular, and neuroscience, among many others. The Health System operates West Virginia's first and only multi-organ transplant center, and opened a new, 150-bed Children's Hospital in September 2022.

Today, the WVU Health System has more than 2,400 licensed beds, 3,900 providers, and nearly 30,000 employees. Anchored by a 700-bed academic medical center in Morgantown, the Health System includes more than 20 member hospitals that collectively serve a multi-state region that includes West Virginia, Western Maryland, Eastern Ohio, and Southwestern Pennsylvania. WVU Medicine is pleased to announce a new practice at Wheeling Hospital. Enjoy the team atmosphere of a 48,000/year visit per year ED. There are 50 hours/day of physician coverage (10 hour shifts) and 40 hours/day of APP coverage with scribes. The EMR is Allscripts, but with a future transition to EPIC. Tertiary support from the West Virginia University Health System. Practice community emergency medicine, with the right people, for the right reasons. The Department of Emergency Medicine has over 100 full-time members across diverse practice sites. There are additional career opportunities for Emergency Medicine physicians looking for a variety of clinical experiences anchored by an academic affiliation to WVU's School of Medicine.

Qualified applicants must have an MD, MD/PhD or DO degree (the employer accepts foreign educational equivalent) and be eligible to obtain an unrestricted West Virginia medical license. Candidates must have completed an accredited residency program and be board-certified or board-eligible via a recognized board within ABMS.

Wheeling Hospital provides premium health care to residents of Wheeling, WV, Northern Panhandle of WV, and Eastern Ohio. Wheeling Hospital provides a wide range of services, including its Surgical Center, Center for Pediatrics, Center for Women's Services, Emergency/Level 2 Trauma Center, as well as a comprehensive cancer center and full-service cardiac catheterization lab, Stroke Care and is certified as a STEMI and Chest Pain Center. Founded in 1850, Wheeling Hospital has been a health care provider longer than any other hospital in West Virginia.
