Position Summary The Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska is recruiting an Emergency Medicine/Toxicology physician to be an integral part of our faculty. The incoming faculty member will join a collegial team of physicians that are dedicated to providing extraordinary patient care to all. We are home to a well-established and fully accredited three-year emergency medicine residency program that offers 12 positions per year.

Our hospital partner, Nebraska Medicine is a nationally certified Level I Trauma Center in Nebraska. The Emergency Department is a busy, high acuity ED with an annual census of more than 60,000 patients, excellent physician and advanced practice provider coverage and 24/7 Emergency Medicine resident coverage.

UNMC/Nebraska Medicine is the host institution for the Nebraska Regional Poison Center. NRPC is one of the 55 US poison centers. It serves three states (NE, ID, WY) as well as the Federated States of Micronesia and American Samoa with a combined population of about 4.7 million in 2022. In 2021 The NRPC received 39,675 phone inquiries including 30,622 human exposure calls. Emergency medicine and pharmacy residents, and pharmacy students have scheduled toxicology rotations at the poison center where they participate in the phone consultation service, round daily with the medical toxicologist, and can see bedside consults with the toxicologist at University of Nebraska Medical Center or Omaha Children’s Hospital. Because of its association with the poison center, and the fact that Nebraska Medicine is a liver transplant center, critically ill or unusual poisoning cases are often transferred to our institution from other hospitals in Nebraska or western Iowa.

As Nebraska’s only public academic health sciences center, UNMC and Nebraska Medicine are committed to the education of a 21st century health care work force, to finding cures and treatments for devastating diseases, to providing the best care for patients, and to serving our state and its communities through award-winning outreach.

The successful candidate must be an MD/DO (or equivalent degree) who is board certified or board eligible in both Emergency Medicine and Toxicology. Preference will be given to candidates with experience and/or has completed fellowship or advanced training.

We offer a highly competitive benefits package and rank and salary commensurate with qualifications. Candidates interested in working within a dynamic and stimulating setting may apply with CV and letter of interest - https://unmc.peopleadmin.com/postings/74594. Individuals from diverse backgrounds are encouraged to apply. Required Qualifications M.D. or equivalent.
