Position description

The Department of Cardiovascular Medicine at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, is seeking a cardiovascular-critical care (cardiac intensivist) physician. The Department of Cardiovascular Medicine is comprised of approximately 150 specialists of which 10 participate actively in the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU) division. The CICU is a state-of-the-art 18 bed ICU and provides innovative care to critically ill adult patients with altered cardiac function, hemodynamic instability and multiple potential comorbid conditions in a closed unit setting. A multidisciplinary team, including an attending cardiologist, well-rounded house staff, critical care advanced practice providers, nursing, pharmacy, cardiovascular monitoring technicians, respiratory technicians, dietitians, social work, palliative care medicine, and chaplains provide care collaboratively and effectively.

There is an active educational program with learners at all stages of education including the Mayo Clinic Alix School of Medicine, Internal Medicine residency, Cardiology as well as Critical Care fellowship programs, Mayo School of Graduate Medical Education, and the Mayo School of Continuous Professional Development.

This is a full-time position with a 0.50 FTE commitment to CICU care and 12-14 on-campus service weeks (84-98 shifts) per year with compensation time following service weeks. This position includes an academic appointment with the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine.

License or certification

Prefer candidates who are board certified or board-eligible in cardiovascular disease and critical care medicine (but this is not required). The ideal candidate must be experienced and credentialed in central venous and arterial line placement, transvenous temporary pacemaker positioning, pulmonary artery balloon floatation catheter placement and monitoring, advanced cardiac life support, non-invasive and invasive ventilation management, and moderate sedation administration and monitoring.
