The Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso (TTUHSC El Paso) Department of Emergency Medicine is seeking board-certified physicians in the area of emergency medicine to become part of its team of professionals. The TTUHSC El Paso Department of Emergency Medicine staffs the emergency room of University Medical Center of El Paso, a Level I Trauma Center with approximately 60,000 visits annually.
Major Essential Functions:
• Serves as assistant director of EMS for the Division of Emergency Medical Services in the department.
• Develops and implements EMS consult service for inpatient and outpatient settings.
• Assists with the development of EMS curricula for new fellowship program.
• Supervises medical EMS fellows, residents and students.
• Provides performance evaluation, skill testing, and mentoring of residents, fellows and medical students.
• Provides patient care in the emergency department.
• Participates in residents and faculty recruitment.
• Serves as medical control physician for El Paso EMS while on duty in the emergency department.
• Assists department chair with implementation of departmental polices and monitoring staffing effectiveness.
• Participates in national societies, such as ACEP, SAEM, ACMT and AACT.
• Participates in medical research projects related to emergency medicine.
• Participates in medical school and hospital committees.
• Assists with development and implementation of special departmental projects, conference presentations to residents, students, nurses and EMTs.
• Participates in chart audits and other clinical performance improvement efforts. Attends and participates in morbidity-mortality conference and journal clubs.
• Demonstrates professionalism in accordance with the Paul L. Foster School of Medicine's Declaration of Faculty Professional Responsibility.
• Adheres to institutional and departmental safety policies and procedures.
• Attends mandatory training provided and required by Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Successful completion of ACGME-accredited residency program in emergency medicine.
• Successful completion of ACGME-accredited fellowship program in Emergency Medical Services or equivalent experience.
• Board certification in Emergency Medicine by the American Board of Emergency Medicine or the American Osteopathic Board of Emergency Medicine.
• Knowledge and/or training in research, pediatric emergency medicine, occupational and environmental medicine or preventative medicine
• Experience in teaching residents and medical students
• Evidence of growth in clinical, teaching and research activities relating to the specialty.
• Knowledge of medical Spanish.

Required Qualifications
Academic degree as defined by the academic unit and as appropriate for the position held. Demonstrated record of effectiveness as a teacher, a record of peer reviewed publication and/or peer-reviewed creative activity which has contributed to the discipline or field of study, to the candidate’s intellectual and artistic development, and to the quality of the academic enterprise; a record of professional service appropriate to the discipline; promise of growth in teaching and research or artistic and creative activity.
