Chair of Emergency Medicine - Danbury, Connecticut (60 miles from New York City)

Danbury Hospital, part of Nuvance Health, is seeking a Chair of Emergency Medicine for Danbury and New Milford Hospitals in suburban Fairfield County, Connecticut. The ideal candidate will be board certified in Emergency Medicine and have at least 7-10 years of post-training experience with previous leadership experience preferred. This is an excellent opportunity to lead a busy Emergency Department at a Level II Trauma Center. Danbury, Connecticut is located about 60 miles northeast of New York City and near the border of Westchester and Putnam Counties in New York State.

The Chair of Emergency Medicine will report to the Vice President for Medical Affairs (VPMA) of Danbury and New Milford Hospitals. The Chair provides clinical and strategic leadership for all functions of Emergency Medical Services at both Danbury and New Milford Hospital campuses and ensures high quality, cost effective care for all patients. He/she shares responsibility for supervising and coordinating air ambulance, ambulance and emergency room operations, including ER nursing services. He/she will establish performance targets for the areas of responsibility and manage the performance of the staff in meeting those targets.

Major Accountabilities:

  • Overall supervision of the Department of Emergency Medicine. Serves as the Medical Director of the Paramedic Unit and as an authority in the areas of EMS and to Emergency Directors.
  • Establishes operating policies and standards for nurse managers. Analyzes and evaluates the operations of the nursing division to ensure compliance with established policies.
  • Serves as a representative for extensive external involvement to the Medical Review Board, Connecticut Hospital Association and the State Policy on Emergency Services.
  • Ensures compliance within the Chairman of Emergency Medicine's scope of responsibilities to governmental & Joint Commission reporting & document retention guidelines.
  • Provides leadership and direction in Divisional meetings, Chairmen's meetings, Service Line meetings, Medical Staff Executive Committee meetings, Service Excellence Group meetings and Chiefs' meetings.
  • Oversees all departmental activities in peer review, medical education and research.
  • Monitors and ensures quality of services as provided by the department through the development and implementation of specific goals and metrics for assigned initiatives which may be delegated to departmental physicians.
