The BerbeeWalsh Department of Emergency Medicine invites applications for board-certified/eligible emergency medicine physicians to join our thriving academic faculty group at the University of Wisconsin (UW).

All individuals interested in developing an academic career are encouraged to apply. We are particularly looking to recruit:

• Research Faculty
• Global Emergency Medicine Faculty
• Patient Safety and Quality-Focused Faculty
• Flight Physicians (part-time or moonlighting)

Applicants must have obtained an MD or DO degree and have graduated from an accredited emergency medicine residency program.
 

Clinical Responsibilities
All faculty members deliver exceptional patient-centered emergency care as part of an operationally efficient health system at UW Health, the integrated health system of the UW. Our flagship ED, located at University Hospital is one of only two academic medical centers in the state. It is certified as a Level 1 Trauma and Burn Center and is a busy quaternary care center. It has been ranked the #1 hospital in Wisconsin by U.S. News & World Report for 11 years running.

Faculty may staff our 1) community ED at East Madison Hospital; 2) pediatric ED adjoining the adult ED at University Hospital and staffed by faculty with fellowship training in pediatric emergency medicine; or 3) Madison’s VA Hospital. Flight physicians will staff UW Health Med Flight, the only air medical service in the U.S. to fly full-time with an attending physician on board.
 

Teaching, Scholarly, and Service Responsibilities
All faculty have teaching responsibilities, supporting undergraduate, graduate and medical students, and resident and fellow trainees. Faculty are also expected to engage in scholarly activities that result in publications, including book chapters and original research. Research faculty are expected to obtain external funding. All faculty participate in service activities to support the clinical and scholarly missions of UW and UW Health. Distribution of effort will be determined in accordance with service needs, academic priorities and the candidate's expertise and academic goals.

Since our founding in 2014, the Department of Emergency Medicine has become a top tier academic department of emergency medicine. We are comprised of seven subspecialty divisions and around 50 academic faculty, 39 residents, 8 fellows, and 20 advanced practice providers.

We deliver high-quality care to patients from across the upper Midwest through state-of-the-art clinical facilities and services and robust clinical programs such as EMS, critical care and ultrasound. We also engage communities and health systems abroad through global emergency medicine initiatives. Integral to our mission is training the next generation of emergency physicians and clinician-scientists through our three-year, ACGME-accredited emergency medicine residency and 8 fellowship training programs.

Our research enterprise performs high-impact clinical and translational emergency care research and fosters the successful development of investigators dedicated to generating new knowledge and advancing equitable health care. Extensive opportunities for collaborative research exist across the UW, with active programs in basic, clinical and public health science.
