The James H. Quillen VA Medical Center is seeking a full-time board certified/board eligible pulmonary and critical care physician. Sleep board certification preferred but not required. Advacned bronchosopy skill set including EBUS and Navigational Bronchoscopy is also preferred. This position reports to the Chair of the Department of Medicine.
Physicians will engage in management of patients in the intensive care unit ( ICU) and provide pulmonary consultation services on an outpatient basis including interpretation of pulmonary function tests. They will be expected to participate in equitable call coverage on a rotating basis with other full-time pulmonary and critical care attendings. Physicians will improve clinic access to veterans with pulmonary disease by providing both direct care and supervision of advanced practice providers. An appointment with our affiliate(ETSU), is available to qualified applicants.
This physician should be involved with process improvement and quality assurance projects as a Pulmonary physician. In this role, the incumbents will provide feedback and patient education to the patients and their families and demonstrate excellence in all facets of patient care and meets or exceeds compliance standards. This would include clinical, research, and educational activities of the Division in a way that contributes to the mission and goals of the organization. The incumbents will provide consultative feedback and management on patients referred from other sections of the hospital and/or affiliated VA outpatient clinics, and perform administrative functions and other tasks as assigned by the Chief of Pulmonary/Critical Care. Physicians would participate as valued chairpersons or members on committees that impact the hospital delivery of care.
The incumbents are expected to provide patient care that is compassionate, appropriate, and effective for the promotion of health, prevention of illness, and treatment of disease. The ideal candidate should possess strong interpersonal and communication skills that enable them to establish and maintain professional relationships with patients, families, and other members of the health care team. The incumbents are expected to adhere to stated policies and provide timely documentation of clinical notes and timely interpretation and closure of diagnostic reports, consults, and clinic encounters.
In addition, the incumbents are expected to coordinate and communicate the treatment plan with Hospitalists, Primary Care Providers, nursing staff, social workers, clerical staff, pharmacy and other sub-specialists and ancillary staff. The ideal candidates will help to ensure that the highest quality patient care is delivered in a resourceful and efficient manner.
Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases

Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.
Basic Requirements:
[(2) Those approved by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA),OR
(3) Other residencies (non-US residency training programs followed by a minimum of five years of verified practice in the United States), which the local Medical Staff Executive Committee deems to have provided the applicant with appropriate professional training and believes has exposed the physician to an appropriate range of patient care experiences.
Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency training programs and who would otherwise meet the basic requirements for appointment are eligible to be appointed as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs). PRPs must be fully licensed physicians (i.e., not a training license) and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee-basis. PRPs are not considered independent practitioners and will not be privileged; rather, they are to have a "scope of practice" that allows them to perform certain restricted duties under supervision. Additionally, surgery residents in gap years may also be appointed as PRPs.

Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine. NOTE: The Under Secretary of Health or designee in the VHA Central Office may approve the appointment under authority of 38 U.S.C. § 7405 of a physician graduate of a school of medicine not covered above if the candidate is to be assigned to a research, academic, or administrative position with no patient care responsibilities.
