About the Company
Tembo Health is a telemedicine platform that pushes technological innovation and leverages operational excellence to improve health outcomes for seniors. We partner with senior communities to provide their patients with medical services to manage chronic conditions, extend life expectancy, and even avoid the emergency room.

We're venture backed, with funding from big tech investors like Bloomberg Beta, B Capital, Resolute, AARP and led by a cadre of entrepreneurs who have built and scaled unicorn tech companies (e.g., Flatiron, Oscar, Imagen). Our team includes startup veterans, physicians, and more. We're here to make a big, meaningful impact on healthcare and have fun while we're at it. We're looking for smart, mission-driven, goal-oriented team members who are creative problem solvers and big dreamers. If that sounds like you, let's talk!
About the Role
We are seeking full-time physicians who are passionate about delivering great care and are excited to help us set a new, higher standard of care for America’s seniors. In your role, you will be responsible for delivering high quality clinical care to patients in various settings (e.g., assisted living facilities, community clinics, nursing homes, etc.) for our urgent and preventative care services. You will do all this from the location of your choice (e.g., home, office, clinic) since most care will be delivered primarily remote via video conference and working 3-4 days of the week in 12-hour shifts. Besides clinical care, we value your experience and want your input into our product. You will work alongside our operations and engineers to build tools, workflows, and services that allow you to drive better, faster, and lower cost care for our seniors and communities.

We rely on your input into research questions that will direct product development and validate the customer (patient, clinician) experience. We invite you to dive deep into product and work alongside our engineers to build tools that will, in turn, allow you to drive better, faster, and lower cost care. For those inclined, scholarship opportunities in top tier journals exist as well.

Responsibilities
  • Respond to urgent care requests. You will deliver exceptional, evidence-based care to patients for common and acute care concerns in response to calls requesting urgent assistance and evaluation. This could include assessing chest or abdominal pain, injuries due to falls, extended fatigue/weakness, dizziness, etc. while abiding by all regulatory guidelines, as applicable to your license.
  • Conduct patient intake visits. As new residents join a community or elect for our services, you will conduct a telehealth exam, review their medical history, and provide health risk assessments and screens for areas such as mental health/cognition or fall risk. This will all serve as helpful information and baselines for future visits while reducing friction and barriers to care even during emergency situations.
  • Drive process improvement. We will lean on you as part of the clinical operations team to think about how we can grow and scale what we do from a clinical perspective. You will have the opportunity to identify how to improve our clinical workflows and supporting operations. Work with different stakeholders to build the processes and workflows to make our services and team be successful.
  • Partner in design. You’ll work with our teams to build products and services that effectively help the patient and enable clinicians to do their work. We want to build products for and by clinicians. Therefore, your valuable insight and feedback will help make sure we design with effectiveness, efficiency, and ease in mind.
  • Develop your team. You’ll also manage a team of clinicians and their respective engagement, efficiency and efficacy. We will look to you to know how they are doing and for any opportunities to grow, support, and train them.
  • Ensure quality documentation and data. As an outcomes-focused company and since working with multiple stakeholders, you will ensure all charts and notes are filled out and medical records are completed using our EMR system and proprietary software.
  • Provide collaborative, clinical expertise. You’ll be working with other clinicians that may need your opinion and perspective on cases and patient treatment. When needed, you will provide support to colleagues with your experience. Additionally, we believe in shared decision-making where ultimately the patient, or their designated family member, has final authority on what to do. So we rely on you to provide as much relevant perspective for them to make an informed decision as one of their trusted healthcare partners.

Travel Requirements

This role may include ~20% travel to visit our senior communities for relationship building and user research.

About You
Our ideal candidate is a highly motivated clinician with the work ethic to achieve excellence and shape the future of healthcare. Candidates should have the desire to advance healthcare forward through the use of cutting edge technology, because the status quo is simply unacceptable.

Requirements

You’ll be a fit for this role if you are:
  • Fully licensed and board certified.
  • 5+ years of experience post-residency in primary care (internal medicine, family practice) or emergency medicine with excellent assessment, diagnostic, and treatment skills based on evidence-based medicine.
  • 3+ years of experience of operational/leadership experience driving efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Strong webside manner and interpersonal skills when dealing with patients, physicians, and caregivers.
  • Comfortable with technology, telemedicine, and using an EHR (e.g., Athena Health).

Bonus
  • Geriatric experience or worked closely with a senior population.
  • Currently licensed and residing in the New York/Chicago/Houston/Austin metro area and able to travel within the immediate region.
  • Advanced degree (e.g., MBA, MPH, MPP) or leadership experience (e.g., hospital administration, chief resident, etc).
